Dean Gregory Triplett Visits SLU-Madrid to Strengthen Science and Engineering Collaboration

by Isaiah Voss

Gregory Triplett, Ph.D. Oliver L. Parks Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, visited Saint Louis University-Madrid from Nov. 12 to 19, participating in a series of academic and professional activities aimed at enhancing collaboration and strategic planning between the St. Louis and Madrid campuses.

Among his activities, Triplett delivered an invited public lecture, open to all faculty and staff, at San Ignacio Hall Auditorium titled "Shaping Tomorrow's World: The Next Generation of Researchers, Innovators, and Ethical Leaders." The lecture highlighted interdisciplinary opportunities and the development of future leaders in science and engineering. He also met with science and engineering students at the same venue, providing a unique opportunity to gain insights directly from the dean about the latest developments, resources, and opportunities within the School of Science and Engineering. Students discussed topics such as the impact of AI on STEM job markets and explored pathways for internships, research collaborations, and professional growth.

Triplett attended the Computer Science & Engineering Students' Club exhibition in Manresa Hall, engaging with students to discuss ideas and explore new design approaches.

The visit included a tour of ICAI Comillas, the School of Engineering at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid) and the IIT Research Institute, a leading institute for technological and interdisciplinary research, where potential collaborative initiatives between the two Jesuit institutions were explored.

The visit concluded with a wrap-up session with university administration to review ongoing collaborations, strategic priorities, and future initiatives for science and engineering at SLU-Madrid. Before this meeting, Triplett met with the dean of the Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Técnicos Aeronáuticos y Aeroespaciales and president of the Asociación de Ingenieros Técnicos Aeronáuticos y Aeroespaciales (COITAE) to explore collaboration between SLU's SSE and COITAE's MasterX programs in aeronautical and space engineering. Further steps will be taken to assess the viability of this partnership.
